Fox & Owl Consulting is a small, hard-working leadership training and consulting partnership based on beautiful Vancouver Island in Nanaimo.  Our consultants deliver training, coaching, and consulting in leadership development, team culture development, change management, customer experience, and succession planning systems. The idea for Fox & Owl Consulting was conceived over the course of the past ten years, as Melissa and Dave were inspired by a number of impactful leaders. Having been exposed to these leadership mentors early in their respective management careers inevitably led to a dynamic partnership. Their proven track records have laid the foundation for their leadership expertise.

We offer organizations an affordable opportunity for external guidance and expertise to elevate team leadership capacity and team dynamics. Our consulting and training services can be the time-saving and cost-effective solution for your company.

Having over 20 years of progressive leadership experience, Melissa recently made the decision to follow her decade-long dream of becoming a consultant. In 2016, Melissa completed a Master of Arts in Leadership degree from Royal Roads University, publishing a thesis on organizational succession planning. She also holds the Prosci Change Management Certification, which incorporates the ADKAR® model.

Her versatility is unique, having led teams in a variety of industries including event fundraising, customer contact centres, recruitment, hospitality, health research, technology, communications, and sales & marketing. Her leadership abilities were developed early on as an English Teacher and Theatre Director.

For the past 10 years, she has specialized in the development of creating high-functioning and effective teams, while delivering operational results. Her focus on culture, leadership development, organizational solutions, and employee engagement through a systems lens has proven highly successful in her leadership career. Melissa has successfully led large teams in for-profit, non-profit, public, private, and unionized environments.  She has effectively led multiple organizational downsizing initiatives and has honed her skills in change leadership, project planning, coaching programs, employee/ leadership development, and succession planning.

She is adept in navigating socio-political environments and strategically transforming objectives into workable solutions. Having both a business and fine arts background, Melissa offers a unique and creative approach that makes her brand of leadership distinctive from the rest.

David has spent the past 30 years of his career in various leadership positions, with 17 years leading various contact centres.  David began his contact centre career in the outsourced technical support environment where he aided the launch of a new site in B.C. growing from 30 to 1500 employees. He progressed to Service Delivery Manager where he was responsible for 300 employees, before moving to Saint John, New Brunswick where he launched another new location as Site Manager, and finally as Senior Business Manager working out of his new home in Calgary, Alberta. David then joined the energy industry  accepting the position of Operations Manager for ENMAX Energy where he spent 8 years, responsible for their contact centre operations team. After moving to Vancouver Island in 2016, David joined a local tech start-up  for 1 year as the Manager of Customer Experience. In September of 2017 David rejoined the energy industry accepting the position of Sr. Manager Contact Centre Operations with BC Hydro.

David completed a Master of Arts in Leadership from Royal Roads University in 2017and is looking forward to further researching the field of organizational leadership, which remains a passion for him. His personal mission is to develop a new breed of smart leaders who can balance the needs of their organization with the needs of individuals, through the proper application of leadership and systems thinking. He strongly believes that organizations can achieve true business success, while still providing a meaningful work environment for their employees.


David has a proven track record  of delivering success both within unionized and non-unionized environments. David’s professionalism, coupled with a healthy sense of humour, makes him approachable. David looks forward to sharing his expertise with organizations, both large and small, to create business success and healthy work environments.
